Walter Chamberlain Receives US SAILING C.R.E.W. Award

Phoenix, Ariz. (October 26, 2007) – Long-time US SAILING volunteer Walter Chamberlain (Bay St. Louis, Miss.) was presented with US SAILING's C.R.E.W. Award today, an honor he has earned for some time. Chamberlain was presented with the award on Friday morning during US SAILING’s Board of Directors meeting at the organization’s Annual Meeting in Phoenix, Ariz. The C.R.E.W. award recognizes US SAILING volunteers and staff who effectively set clear expectations, show mutual respect, and are committed to collaboration within the organization.

When Chamberlain isn't playing his banjo or working at a New Orleans yacht brokerage, he can be found plowing through US SAILING's Bylaws or fulfilling his duties as Chair of US SAILING's House of Delegates. For over 20 years, he has been regular at US SAILING meetings, always with a good sense of humor providing guidance to newcomers as well as well as offering a wealth of information and advice to other volunteers.

The C.R.E.W. award, first presented in the spring of 2002, is now a regular part of US SAILING meetings. It’s based on the C.R.E.W. Member Agreement, which establishes the values by which staff and volunteers strive to work together:

C stands for Commitment to exceptional service.
R is for Respecting fellow CREW members.
E stands for Expecting Excellence as a standard.
W is for Working together in a responsible consistent fashion.
